RUSS HONS: Photo Gallery — Aurora Borealis, September 11, 2015

On this 14th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York City, Grand Forks photographer Russ Hons snapped these images of the Northern Lights (aurora borealis) in memory of those who perished. Russ says he hopes those who died were able to “see these beautiful lights from where they are now!”

RUSS HONS: Aurora Borealis

The incredible display of Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, on Tuesday night was caused by a severe geomagnetic — or “solar” — storm, which hit the Earth, producing gorgeous auroras and sparking concerns about power disruptions. The storm, which hit the Earth at around 9 a.m., is a “G4” on the five-point scale, according to NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center. Spaceweather.com reports …
