The University of North Dakota men’s hockey team’s 2022-23 season came to an end Friday night as the Fighting Hawks dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to St. Cloud State University in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference semifinals in St. Paul’s Xcel Energy Center. The Fighting Hawks (18-15-6) held leads of 1-0 and 2-1 over the Huskies (23-12-3) on goals by Ethan Frisch and Judd Caufield before Veeti Miettinen and Jami Krannila scored for St. Cloud to force the game into overtime. Zach Okabe scored the winning goal 5:45 into the extra frame to send the Huskies into today’s championship game against Colorado College, a 1-0 winner over the University of Denver earlier Friday. UND goalie Drew DeRidder stopped 18 shots, while St. Cloud netminder Jaxon Castor had 23 saves. (Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.)
