You are darned tootin’ I visited the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace when in Savannah, Ga., about 10 years ago. And the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home nearby. The Pathe video of O’Connors’s chickens she trained to walk backward is a classic and you can watch it here.
LILLIAN CROOK: WildDakotaWoman — Reminiscing About Scouts In My Life
I also spotted some headstones in the Savannah cemeteries of my paternal ancestors. (Yup my paternal ancestors arrived from England and Scotland in the 1600s.) My maternal ancestors came from Norway and Germany in the late 1880s. And my mother was determined that all of her children would be in Scouts in the 1960s. She was a den mother to boot and hauled us all to nearby Scout camps, in the mountains of New Mexico and such. My father was a Scout leader in Slope County after his retirement from the U.S. Army. For a long time, I had my uniforms and sash with my merit badges, but eventually I had to let those mementos go after I went to college and moved a few more times myself.
I still have the pictures though, taken by my parents with a 35 mm camera.
