The Foothills Trail, which connects Pineridge, Maxwell and Reservoir Ridge Natural Areas near Fort Collins, Colo., was the destination of photographer Jeff Olson and his wife, Joanne Plager Burke Olson, this past weekend. The trail is 9.6 miles long and offers a remote feeling as well as opportunities to see plenty of wildlife. It can be reached from several trailheads managed by both the city of Fort Collins and Larimer County. The Foothills Trail follows the ridge that marks the eastern edge of the Horsetooth Reservoir. Starting in the north at the Reservoir Ridge Natural Area, the trail crosses into the Horsetooth Reservoir County Park and then into the Maxwell Natural Area. Along the way it branches off into several other loop trails and overlook trails.
