The University of North Dakota knew it had its work cut out Saturday in its matchup with the University of Washington from the Pac-12, and that proved to be the case as the Huskies defeated the Fighting Hawks 45-3 in Seattle’s Huskie Stadium. UND (1-1) trailed just 17-0 after the first half and cut the margin to two touchdowns on a Brady Leach 20-yard field goal early in the third quarter, but the ninth-ranked Huskies scored four unanswered touchdown to secure the win. John Santiago rushed for a game-high 139 yards on just 18 carries, highlighted by a 69-yard run in the third quarter on the lone scoring drive of the Fighting Hawks. Washington (1-1), which finished with a passing yards advantage of 437 to 101, was led by Jake Browning, who threw for 313 yards and two touchdowns, and Ty Jones, who caught two touchdown passes. UND’s next action is also on the road, at Huntsville, Texas, against Sam Houston State, the fourth-ranked team in the FCS.
