The University of Minnesota-Duluth men’s hockey team continued its mastery over the University of North Dakota this season, posting a 5-3 National Collegiate Hockey Conference win over the Fighting Hawks on Friday night in Ralph Engelstad Arena. The Bulldogs beat the Hawks twice in Duluth earlier this season. After Tyson Jost gave UND (13-8-3 overall, 6-6-1-1 NCHC) a 1-0 lead in the first period, the first-place Bulldogs (14-5-4 overall, 10-4-1-1 NCHC) scored four straight goals en route to the victory. Also scoring goals for UND were Shane Gersich and Joel Janatuinen. Riley Tufte led the Bulldogs with two goals, while Adam Johnson, Sammy Spurrell and Avery Peterson scored one goal each. UND goalie Cam Johnson had 12 saves and gave up three goals before being replaced by Matt Hrynkw, who stopped 17 shots. Hunter Miska had 21 saves for UMD. The two teams meet again tonight to complete the two-game series. (Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.)
