CHEF JEFF: One Byte At A Time — Party Mix

No holiday celebration would be complete without finger food. And one that you might find on a lot of snack tables is the traditional party mix made with Wheat, Corn and Rice Chex cereals, mixed nuts, Cheerios and other crunchy goodies.

We always had a good supply of party mix when I was growing up. Mom used to make a couple of batches of the mix every December.

There always was a container or two of it sitting in our back porch, so it was within arm’s length whenever we would come or go. There probably wasn’t a time that I passed by without grabbing a handful or two.

The following recipe is based on the one Mom used but with a couple of minor changes. I like to add garlic rye chips and small pretzels to my mix. It’s always been a hit at our house.

Christmas wouldn’t be complete without this tasty tradition.

Party Mix
2 cups Wheat Chex
2 cups Corn Chex
2 cups Rice Chex
2 cups Cheerios
2 cup party pretzels
1 14.75-ounce can mixed nuts
6 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 8-ounce package garlic rye chips
4 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
Heat oven to 250 degrees. Melt butter in shallow pan and stir in Worcestershire sauce and seasoned salt. Mix in large bowl with other ingredients. Place on cookie sheet and place in oven for 45 minutes. Stir every 15 minutes.
