It was a traveling month for Dave Vorland. Along the way, the Bloomington, Minn., photographer captured images from the PGA Memorial Tournament in Columbus, Ohio, the Vesterheim Museum and Heritage Center in Decorah, Iowa, as well as others from around the Twin Cities.

June 22: My supper with Dorette Kerian last night. Baby back ribs prepared in the slow cooker, served on the deck of our place in Bloomington, Minn., with several sides and, naturally, beer. Ribs purchased at our local Von Hanson’s Meats, the only vendor I’ve found that ranks with L&M Meats of Grand Forks, N.D. And yes, I’m usually better with portion control than this. But not always.

June 7: Great White sharks grow to be 20 feet long and often live 70 years. Worldwide, they account for most of the fatal, unprovoked shark attacks on humans. Think of the movie “Jaws.” Or Hemingway’s novel “The Old Man and the Sea” (oh wait, no, those sharks were Makos). So friends who scuba dive (you know who you are), be alert. The Great Whites are expanding into new territories, raising fears, for example, in coastal California. Not to worry about this one it lives at the Minnesota Zoo and is about the size of a large Muskie.

June 3: To me, the best golf courses are works of architectural/landscape art, creatively beautiful in their own right over and beyond the “game” of athletic skill that is played upon them. We had a great time today wandering Jack Nicklaus’s Muirfield Village course in Columbus, Ohio, for his annual PGA Memorial Tournament. Round Three tomorrow!
