No. 1-ranked University of Minnesota women’s hockey team was too much for the University of North Dakota on Thursday night in Ralph Engelstad Arena. The Gophers scored three unanswered goals in the first period to hand North Dakota a 5-1 loss before more than 4,000 fans. UND fell to 5-2-2 overall and 3-2-2-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play. Undefeated Minnesota upped its record to 9-0-0 overall and 7-0-0-0 in the WCHA. Becca Kohler scored UND’s lone goal, while goaltender Shelby Amsley-Benzie had 19 saves. Caitlin Reilly, Millica McMillen, Kate Schipper and Nina Rodgers scored for the Gophers. Minnesota goaltender Amanda Leveille finished with 18 saves. The two teams meet again at 7:07 tonight in a Pack the Ralph game.
