The University of North Dakota women’s basketball season came a heartbreaking end Sunday night as the Fighting Hawks dropped a 76-74 decision to Weber State in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitational in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. UND (19-14) surrendered a four-point halftime lead as the Wildcats (22-11) outscored the Fighting Hawks 30-11 in the third quarter and held on to advance to the semifinal round against USC Upstate. UND’s Samantha Roscoe tied a career high with 22 points, while Mia Loyd added eight points while pulling down 17 rebounds. Fallen Freije chipped in 14 for the Fighting Hawks for her fourth double-digit game of the season. Deeshyra Thomas led Weber State with a game-high 30 points.
