LILLIAN CROOK: WildDakotaWoman — On The Hill Of Murdered Scout, St. Peter’s Spring

On finding an old map in the State Historical Society of North Dakota Archives:

Somewhere near the Turtle Mountains. By the La Butte Mark, by the “Half Breed Road”. On the Des Lac River. East of the La Roche. Northeast of Strawberry Island on the Missouri River. North of the Little Knife River. North of the White Earth River. North of the Beaver. North of the Coteau of the Missouri, where the Indigenous and the French and the Canadians met. North of Fort Union, north of Fort Buford. Donaldson and Stevens, 1853. Sibley and Sully. Captain Twining 1873. Cut Bank Creek.

The Dana Monroe Wright, State Historical Society of North Dakota, 1813-1986

With gratitude to Sarah Walker, SHSND Archives. And Sarah Vogel, who was present when I looked at some of these maps, January 2025.
