Grand Forks photographer Dave Bruner and his wife, Sheila, went out to the Badlands in western North Dakota this past week to hike around the area, take in the Medora Musical and do some photography. “The area was so nice and green due to the timely rains this year. The wildflowers were out in full bloom and gave the landscape some added beauty. Getting up at 4 a.m. to catch some nice sunrises was worth the effort to catch the new day beginning in the Badlands.”

The buffalo were out and about at sunrise, this bull announcing he is here and king of the herd!
“All in a Row”! The cows with their calves all lined up. A bull is in the background along with a prairie dog on his mound.
“Smoke on the Water.” Dave took this scene on the Little Missouri River about 30 minutes before sunrise. The sky was bright yellow/orange with some nice fog rising up off the river.
“Bluebells.” Shot right before sunrise.

“Golden Sunrise.” Dave really likes this image that shows the shadows and early sunrise light hitting the tops of the hills along with nice clouds in the sky above.
“The Badlands Lily.” The wild lilies and Bluebells were out in full bloom this time of year. Dave shot this image right at sunrise with the early morning light falling on the flowers. He focused on the lily as the main subject with the Badlands hills in the background diffused.
