A goal by Brandon McManus in overtime lifted the University of Nebraska-Omaha to a 3-2 win over the University of North Dakota men’s hockey team in National Collegiate Hockey Conference play Saturday night in Ralph Engelstad Arena. The win gave UNO a split in the series. UND won Friday night’s contest 4-1. The Fighting Hawks (15-11-1 overall, 10-5-1 NCHC), ranked 12th nationally, surrendered a two-goal lead in the third period before falling to the No. 18-ranked  Mavericks (17-11-0 overall, 7-9-0 NCHC). Riese Gaber and Judd Caulfield had given UND a 2-0 lead before Davis Pennington and Kevin Conley tallied in the third period for UNO. UND goalie Zach Driscoll had 27 saves, while UNO’s Isaiah Saville stopped 28 shots. UND was playing without Jake Sanderson, who is in Los Angeles awaiting clearance on COVID-19 tests before heading to China to play for the United States in the Winter Olympic Games. The Fighting Hawks also played the third period without Mark Senden and Louis Jamernik, who were injured in the second period, and Gain Hain and Brendan Budy, both out with injuries. The Fighting Hawks return to play next weekend when they host Colorado College. (Check out more  photos from Russ Hons here.)
