RUSS HONS: Photo Gallery — University Of North Dakota Vs. Minnesota State University-Mankato

Max Coatta scored three goals to lead No. 7-ranked Minnesota State University-Mankato to a 7-4 win over the University of North Dakota on Friday night in Ralph Engelstad Arena. The Fighting Hawks (0-2-1) jumped out to a 2-1 lead just 2:44 into the first period, but a checking from behind major penalty and an automatic game disqualification against captain Rhett Gardner gave the Mavericks (3-0) a five-minute power play. Coatta scored his first goal on the ensuing power play to tie the game. The Mavs then outscored poured in four second-period goals to only two by the Hawks to jump to a 6-4 lead before adding their seventh goal in the third period. Collin Adam, Zach Yon, Matt Kierstad and Ludvig Hoff were the UND goal scorers. Parker Tuomie added two goals and an assist and Marc Michaelis had a goal and an assist for the Mavericks. UND starting goalie Peter Thome was pulled just 2:07 into the second period. He gave up  four goals on 10 shots. Adam Scheel relieved Thome, giving up two goals on 10 shots. Dryden McKay had 34 saves in goal for the Mavs. The two teams meet again tonight. (Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.)
