The University of North Dakota football team hung with the University of Utah for one quarter Thursday night in Salt Lake City,  but the 25th-ranked Utes proved to be too much for the Fighting Hawks the rest of the game. The result was a 37-16 win for the Football Bowl Subdivision’s Utes, who won their 10th-straight season opener. The Football Championship Subdivision’s Fighting Hawks were outgained 499-238 in total offense and outrushed 272-51. UND Quarterback Keaton Studsrud was 13-for-28 passing for 175 yards and a touchdown, but Fighting Hawks All-Big Sky running back duo of John Santiago and Brady Oliveira were held to a combined 35 yards on 17 attempts. Travis Toivonen led UND with four receptions for 64 yards, while senior De’mun Mercer added three grabs for 32 yards. UND’s Reid Taubenheim made all three of his field goal attempts in the first half. UND’s only touchdown was scored by Luke Fiedler on a 3-yard pass from Studsrud. The Utes were paced by quarterback Tyler Huntley, who was 23-for-32 passing for 227 yards and one touchdown. He added 70 yards rushing with one touchdown. UND returns to action in next Saturday’s Potato Bowl game against Missouri State in the Alerus Center.
