RUSS HONS: Photo Gallery — NCAA West Regional Tournament: University Of North Dakota vs. University Of Arizona

The University of North Dakota men’s basketball team couldn’t overcome a talented University of Arizona squad, dropping a 100-82 decision to the Wildcats Thursday night in the opening round of the NCAA West Regional in Salt Lake City, ending the Fighting Hawks amazing run in the 2016-17 season. The Fighting Hawks (22-10) were led by Quinton Hooker, who scored 25 points, and Drick Bernstine, who added 20 points and a season-high 15 rebounds. Geno Crandall chipped in 12 points and six assists. Corey Baldwin also finished in double figures in scoring with 12 points. Arizona (31-4) was paced by Lauri Markkanen and Rawle Alkins, who each had 20 points. Alonzo Trier added 18 points, and Dusan Ristic had 12 and Kadeem Allen 10. The Wildcats, the Pac-10 regular season and postseason tournament champions, will meet St. Mary’s College (29-4) in the regional’s quarterfinals Saturday. (Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.)
