The University of North Dakota men’s hockey team picked up three crucial National Collegiate Hockey Conference points with its 6-4 win over the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Friday night in Ralph Engelstad University. Steven Spinner had two goals for the Mavericks (8-11-2-0 NCHC, 15-13-5 overall), while David Pope and Fredrik Olafsson each scored once. UND goalie Cam Johnson stopped 33 shots. Omaha goalie Alex Blankenburg had 31 saves. The victory, coupled with St. Cloud State’s 4-3 overtime loss to Denver University, moved UND into fourth place in the NCHC standings, one point ahead of the Huskies and three ahead of Omaha with all three teams having three games remaining. The top four teams in the final standings earn home ice for the first round of league playoffs. The two teams meet again tonight.
