Two goals by forward Shane Gersich were not enough as the University of North Dakota men’s hockey team dropped a 3-2 National Collegiate Hockey Conference game to Denver University on Saturday night in Ralph Engelstad Arena. No. 6-ranked nationally UND (5-4-2, 0-3-1-1 in NCHC) is now winless in its last six games (0-4-2). The Fighting Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period on Gersich’s second goal of the weekend, but DU went into the second frame up 2-1 after goals by Liam Finlay and Adam Plant. Gersich scored his second goal of the game about 5 minutes into the second period, but Henrik Borgstrom scored the game-winner less than a minute later. Fighting Hawks goalie Cam Johnson stopped 20 shots, while DU goaltender Tanner Jaillet had 22 saves.  Denver (7-2-1, 3-0-1 NCHC), ranked No. 2 nationally, now is 7-0-1 in its last eight games. UND returns to action next weekend at St. Cloud State. Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.
