The University of North Dakota men’s hockey team shook off Friday night’s 4-3 overtime loss to visiting University of Nebraska-Omaha by responding with a resounding 5-1 win over the Mavericks on Saturday night in Ralph Engelstad Arena. The game-winner came from senior winger and walk-on Coltyn Sanderson, who scored his first collegiate goal. Also scoring for the Fighting Hawks were Troy Stecher, Drake Caggiula, Luke Johnson and Brock Boeser. For Boeser and Caggiula, it was each’s 15th goal of the season. Tyler Vessel scored the lone UNO goal. Sophomore goalie Cam Johnson stopped 28 of 29 Omaha shots to push his career record to 10-1-1. UND upped its National Collegiate Hockey Conference record 10-2 to and 19-3-2 overall. Omaha dropped to 5-6-1 in the NCHC and 15-6-1 overall. The Fighting Hawks return to action next weekend when they host league foe Colorado College on Friday and Saturday nights.
