The University of North Dakota men’s hockey team stayed perfect in 2016, defeating the University of Alabama-Huntsville 4-1 on Saturday night in Ralph Engelstad Arena to complete the New Year’s weekend sweep of its nonconference foe. Cam Johnson’s streak of shutout goaltending ended when a puck shot by Chargers’ defenseman Richard Buri went off the stick of a UND teammate and slid past him at 19:47 of the first period, snapping his scoreless run at 298 minutes, 25 seconds, second-longest in the history of college hockey. Johnson did have 14 saves in the Fighting Hawks victory, which boosted the team’s overall record to 18-2-2, the most wins among the 60 NCAA Division I hockey-playing schools. Carmine Guerriero had 34 saves for the Chargers, who fell to 4-14-2 on the season. Bryn Chyzyk, Drake Caggiula, Troy Stecher and Paul LaDue scored the UND goals. Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.
