The University of North Dakota football team had its way with Drake in the first half of Saturday’s 50th annual Potato Bowl game, running up a three-touchdown lead. But the Bulldogs held UND scoreless in the second half while scoring 18 unanswered points to take some of the sheen off the home team’s 21-18 victory.

The disappointing three-point win comes on the heels of UND’s stunning 24-13 upset last weekend of Wyoming in Laramie in which the visitors outgunned the Cowboys in total yards 429-320.

Against Drake, UND was held to only 36 yards on the ground after rushing for 276 the previous week. In the air, UND held a 260-237 edge of the Bulldogs.

On offense, UND was led by quarterback Keaton Studsrud, who passed for three touchdowns and no interceptions.

UND, which travels to Fargo next weekend to take on the four-time defending NCAA Division I Football champions North Dakota State (1-1), upped its record to 2-0 in the young season. It will be the first meeting between the two teams, longtime rivals in the old North Central Conference, in a dozen years.
