RUSS HONS: Photo Gallery — University Of North Dakota Vs. Northern Arizona University

Sydney Mattson, starting just her first match of the season, had a career-best 35 assists to lead the University of North Dakota women’s volleyball team to a 25-20, 25-17, 25-19 Big Sky Conference sweep of Northern Arizona University on Thursday night in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. On offense, UND was led by Tamara Merseli, who had 12 kills and 20 digs. Faith Dooley chipped in 10 kills, while Jordan Vail had nine kills and Ashley Brueggeman had seven. The Fighting Hawks (26-7 overall, 11-4 BSC) are still in the mix to grab the No. 2 seed in the upcoming league tournament. NAU is 12-14 overall and 8-7 in the BSC. UND hosts Northern Colorado in its regular season finale Saturday morning. (Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.)

RUSS HONS: Photo Gallery — University Of North Dakota Vs. University Of Montana

The University of North Dakota women’s volleyball team won its 20th straight home match, defeating the University of Montana 25-15, 22-25, 26-25, 25-19 in Big Sky Conference play Thursday night in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Fighting Hawks (24-2 overall, 9-2 BSC) did have their school-record consecutive home set winning streak come to an end at 39, though, as Montana took the third set. UND was led by Jordan Vail, who had 11 kills and six blocks. Faith Dooley added 10 kills and seven total blocks, while Sydney Griffin chipped in 36 assists, 10 digs, six kills, three blocks and a pair of aces in the win. North Dakota returns to action Saturday night when it hosts Montana State. (Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.)

RUSS HONS: Photo Gallery — University Of North Dakota Vs. Idaho State University

The University of North Dakota women’s volleyball team ran its home winning streak to 18 behind three different players who recorded double-doubles in defeating Idaho State University 25-22, 27-25, 25-16 in Big Sky Conference action Thursday night in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. Faith Dooley (10 kills, 10 blocks), Tamara Merseli (10 kills, 14 digs) and Sydney Griffin (40 assists, 10 digs) all scored  double-doubles, while Jordan Vail led the Fighting Hawks offense with 13 kills. Alivia Fraase chipped in 21 digs and Teodora Tepavac added 16. UND upped its season record to 22-4 overall and 7-2 in the Big Sky. Senior Faith Dooley blocked 10 shots and added nine kills without an error and Sydney Griffin chipped in with her seventh double-double of the season (26 assists, 10 digs) as the University of North Dakota women’s volleyball team won its 19th match out of 21 with a sweep of Eastern Washington University on Saturday afternoon in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Fighting Hawks upped their Big Sky Conference record to 4-0 with the 25-15, 25-12, 25-20 sweep. EWU fell to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in the Big Sky. UND goes on the road for its next four matches facing Portland State and Sacramento State next week. (Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.)

RUSS HONS: Photo Gallery — University Of North Dakota Vs. North Dakota State University

The University of North Dakota women’s volleyball team won its 10th match of the season in 11 tries, topping in-state rival North Dakota State University before a sold-out crowd of 3,140 fans Wednesday night in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Fighting Hawks swept the Bison 25-18, 25-9, 25-13 behind the second-largest crowd in the Betty’s history. Faith Dooley led UND with a team-high nine kills and was supported by Jordan Vail and Ashley Brueggeman, who each added seven kills. NDSU was led by McKenzie Burke, who recorded 13 kills. The Bison fell to 4-3 with the loss. UND returns to action Friday, when it will host George Washington (11:30 a.m.) and Appalachian State (7 p.m.). The Fighting Hawks then play South Dakota State at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Betty.

The University of North Dakota women’s volleyball team extended its winning streak to five with a 25-17, 25-11, 25-12 win Thursday night over Montana State in Big Sky Conference play in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Fighting Hawks were led by junior Julia Kaczorowska, who had 13 kills on just 22 swings without an error. Tamara Merseli and Ashley Brueggeman each added eight kills, while Sydney Griffin chipped in 35 assists in the sweep. The victory over the Bobcats (4-12 overall, 2-5 BSC) kept UND (15-8, 6-1) atop  the league’s North Division. The University of North Dakota women’s volleyball team defeated Sacramento State 3-2 on Thursday night in the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center, handing the California school its first Big Sky Conference loss. UND had five players in double figures in kills led by senior Chelsea Moser’s 18. Julia Kaczorowska had 13 kills, while Ashley Brueggeman added a career-high 12. Also in double figures were Faith Dooley (11) and Tamara Merseli (10). UND (13-8 overall) defeated Portland State on Saturday afternoon, to take the Big Sky lead with a 5-1 record. Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.

Sophomore Jordan Vail, a transfer from Baylor University, led the University of North Dakota women’s volleyball team to a three-set sweep of visiting University of Texas El-Paso on Friday night in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. Vail had 10 kills without an error as the Fighting Hawks took straight sets from the Miners, 25-19, 25-18, 25-21, as they evened their record at 3-3 on the season. Tamara added nine kills for UND, while Ashley Brueggeman chipped in eight. Sydney Griffin had a double-double with 35 assists and 10 digs and Alivia Fraase added 15 digs. RUSS HONS: Photo Gallery —Women’s Volleyball, University Of North Dakota Vs. University of Mississippi

The University of North Dakota women’s volleyball team, after opening its 2016 season earlier Saturday with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-18) win over the University of Nebraska-Omaha, dropped a 3-2 contest to the University of Mississippi in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. Ole Miss claimed a thrilling 25-23, 27-25, 23-25, 22-25, 17-15 win over the Fighting Hawks, who later fell 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-18) to the University of California-Davis to finish the UND Classic 1-2. Senior Chelsea Moser led UND with a team-high 15 kills, while Faith Dooley and Tamara Merseli added 13 apiece. Junior Sydney Griffin chipped in 50 assists, and Alivia Fraase had 22 digs. Moser and Merseli were named to the all-tournament team. Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.

The University of North Dakota women’s volleyball team opened its 2016 season on a winning note, defeating the University of Nebraska-Omaha, 25-17, 25-12, 25-18 on Friday night in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Fighting Hawks were led by newcomers in the win, which was played before the fourth-largest volleyball crowd — 2,056 — in the history of the Betty. Junior college transfer Tamara Merseli led the way with 10 kills, while redshirt freshman Alivia Fraasegot had 14 digs. Returning upperclassmen Faith Dooley added nine kills, and Chelsea Moser had eight.
