Geno Crandall scored a game-high 25 points to lead the University of North Dakota men’s basketball team to a 89-79 Big Sky Conference win over Weber State University on Saturday afternoon in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. Crandall added nine rebounds and eight assists for the Fighting Hawks, who improved to 2-4 in the Big Sky and 6-11 overall. Kienan Walter had a career-high 16 points, while Cortez Seales chipped in 15 points and Marlon Stewart 14 points. Jerrick Harding led the Wildcats (3-2 BSC, 10-7 overall) with 22 points and Michal Kozak added 18. Cortes Seales scored 14 points to lead the University of North Dakota men’s basketball team to 81-58 win over Big Sky Conference foe Idaho State University on Thursday night in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Fighting Hawks (5-11, 1-3 BSC) also received 13 points from Conner Avants and Marlon Stewart and 11 points from Dale Jones. Geno Crandall and Billy Brown chipped in nine points each. The Bengals (8-6, 3-1 BSC) were led by Novak Topologic, who scored 12 points. The Fighting Hawks return to action Saturday when they host Weber State University. RUSS HONS: Photo Gallery — University Of North Dakota Vs. University of Montana

The University of Montana snapped the University of North Dakota women’s basketball team’s 11-game home winning streak with a 54-43 Big Sky Conference victory over the Fighting Hawks on Thursday night in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Grizzlies (7-7 overall, 3-0 BSC) were led by Caitlin Lonergan, scored a 12 points and McKenzie Johnston who added nine points and eight rebounds. Lexi Klabo, who went 10-for-16 from the floor, led the Hawks (7-7 overall, 0-3 BSC) with a game-high 21 points. Fallyn Freije added seven points and nine rebounds. The University of North Dakota women’s basketball team ran its home winning streak to 11 games with a 85-62 win over Southwest Minnesota State on Monday night in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Fighting Hawks (7-3) were led by Lexi Klabo, who had a game-high 26 points along with five rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocked shots. Fallyn Freije added 10 points 10 rebounds, while Bailey Strand scored 11 points and Melissa Dailey and Akealy Moton chipped in 10 points each.  Raleigh Rodning led the Mustangs (2-8) with 12 points. Marlon Stewart scored 23 points and Geno Crandall added 20 but it wasn’t enough as North Dakota State University topped the University of North Dakota 88-79 on Saturday in men’s college basketball in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. NDSU (4-5) was led by Paul Smith, who scored a season high 30 points. A.J. Jacobson added 12 points for the visitors. Fallyn Freije and Lexi Klabo led the University of North Dakota women’s basketball team to a 79-68 nonconference win over in-state rival North Dakota State on Saturday afternoon in the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. Freije scored a career-high 26 points and added 12 rebounds, while Klabo added 23 points and 10 rebounds. NDSU (5-5) was led by Michelle Gaislerova, who finished with 19 points. The Bison also received 13 points each from Sarah Jacobson and Reilly Jacobson. The University of North Dakota men’s basketball team, behind Cortez Seales’ game-high 20 points, defeated Division II Northland College of Ashland, Wis., 79-48 in an exhibition game Tuesday night in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Fighting Hawks (3-2) also received 11 points each from Marlon Stewart and Conner Avants. Brandon Galland had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lumber Jacks (0-2). RUSS HONS: Photo Gallery — University of North Dakota Vs. University Of Massachusetts

The University of North Dakota women’s basketball team, led by Lexi Klabo’s 23 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocked shots, defeated the University of Massachusetts 82-52 on Sunday in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. UND (1-2) won its first game of the season after opening with road losses to Oregon State University and South Dakota State University. The Fighting Hawks also received strong offensive efforts from Fallon Freije (16 points), Jill Morton Morton (16) and Melissa Dailey (11). UMass (2-2) was paced by Bre Hampton-Bey and Hailey Leidel, who each scored 11 points. UND hits the road this week for a pair of games in San Antonio, where the Fighting Hawks will face Lamar (Friday) and UT-San Antonio (Saturday). (Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.)

The University of North Dakota women’s basketball team tuned up for its upcoming 2017-18 season opener with a 79-50 exhibition win over the University of Minnesota-Crookston on Wednesday night in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Fighting Hawks were paced by Lexi Klabo, who scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Fallen Freije chipped in 17 points and eight reboards for the Fighting Hawks, and transfer Melissa Dailey added in 16 points, six assists and two rebounds. The Golden Eagles were paced by Isieoma Odor, who scored 16 points, and Micaela Noga, who added 12. UND travels to 17th-ranked Oregon State for its regular season opener Friday. The University of North Dakota women’s volleyball team won its 20th straight home match, defeating the University of Montana 25-15, 22-25, 26-25, 25-19 in Big Sky Conference play Thursday night in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Fighting Hawks (24-2 overall, 9-2 BSC) did have their school-record consecutive home set winning streak come to an end at 39, though, as Montana took the third set. UND was led by Jordan Vail, who had 11 kills and six blocks. Faith Dooley added 10 kills and seven total blocks, while Sydney Griffin chipped in 36 assists, 10 digs, six kills, three blocks and a pair of aces in the win. North Dakota returns to action Saturday night when it hosts Montana State. (Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.)
