RUSS HONS: Photo Gallery — University Of North Dakota Vs. Nicholls State University

The University of North Dakota football team stayed with Nicholls State University into the third quarter, trailing by just four points, but the No. 19-ranked Colonels struck for the next two scores to defeat the No. 24 Fighting Hawks 24-6 in the first round of the FCS playoffs in Thibodaux, La. UND’s only scoring came on two Brady Leach field goals, while the Colonels (9-4) were paced by running back Julien Gums, who ran 16 times for 172 yards, and quarterback Chase Fourcade, who threw for one touchdown and rushed for another. Fourcade was 14-16 passing for 165 yards. UND, which closed the season with a 7-5 record, was held to just 44 yards rushing, while quarterback Nate Ketteringham was 27-47 passing for 269 yards. UND receiver Travis Toivonen caught 10 passes for 121 yards, and Noah Wanzek had seven receptions for 61 yards. Nicholls State will now meet North Dakota State University next weekend in Fargo in the second round of the playoffs. UND will move into the Missouri Valley Football Conference next season.
