RUSS HONS: Photo Gallery — University Of North Dakota Vs. University Of Minnesota-Duluth

The University of North Dakota men’s hockey team knocked off the University of Minnesota-Duluth — the No. 3 team in the country — 5-1 in a National Collegiate Hockey Conference game Friday night in Ralph Engelstad Arena. The Fighting Hawks (15-13-2 overall, 9-9-1 NCHC) jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first period before adding an empty-net goal in the third period against the Bulldogs (18-9-2 overall, 11-7-1 NCHC). Mark Senden, Hayden Shaw, Casey Johnson and Cole Smith scored for UND. Nick Swaney had the only UMD goal. UND goalie Peter Thome had 22 saves, while Hunter Shepard  had 18 saves in goal for Duluth. UND was playing without goalie Adam Scheel and forwards Nick Jones, Joel Janatuinen  and Grant Mishmash, who are either injured or sick. The two teams meet again tonight.
