The University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks men’s basketball team put a scare into the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits, the three-time defending Summit League champions, but came up on the short end of a 78-74 game Wednesday night in Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. The Fighting Hawks (8-11 overall, 2-4 Summit) trailed by 13 points in the second half but rallied to take the lead before a late surge by SDSU (15-6 overall, 5-1 Summit) lifted the Jackrabbits to the win. Three UND players scored in double figures — Marlon Stewart (19), Cortez Seales (18) and Filip Rebraca (15) — while SDSU’s Mike Daum led all scorers with 34 points. David Jenkins added 20 and Skyler Flatten chipped in 10 for the Jacks (15-6 overall, 5-1 Summit). UND returns to play Saturday against North Dakota State in Fargo.
