The University of North Dakota women’s softball team, behind the pitching of Kaylin VanDomelen, defeated Idaho State University 5-1, in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon at Apollo. UND (25-26, 10-8 Big Sky Conference) set a program mark for wins in a single season and the most-ever Big Sky Conference wins with the victory. VanDomelen picked up her 12th win of the season, going 6.2 innings, scattering seven hits with one run allowed and four strikeouts without a walk issued. UND was led in the hitting department by Natalie Gerber, who had two of the team’s seven hits. The Fighting Hawks, who split with the Bengals (13-34 overall, 8-13 BSC) on Friday, claimed the weekend series with the win. North Dakota enters this week’s BSC Tournament in Ogden, Utah, as the No. 3 seed in the six-team field. It’s opponent yet to be known. The Hawks’ first game in the double-elimination tournament will be at 1p.m. Thursday afternoon.
