A goal by Nick Jones — his second of the game — just 53 seconds into overtime gave the University of North Dakota men’s hockey team a 4-3 win over the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday night in Ralph Engelstad Arena and a trip to the National College Hockey Conference’s Frozen Faceoff  next weekend in St. Paul. The Fighting Hawks (16-12-10 overall) won the first game of the best-of-three playoff series 4-0 on Friday night. Matt Kierstad and Dixon Bowen had given UND a 2-0 lead before Teemu Pulkkinen scored twice for the Mavericks (17-17-2 overall) to tie the game after two periods. Jake Randolph scored in the third period to give UNO at 3-2 lead, but Jones scored his first goal midway through the period to send the game into overtime. UND goalie Cam Johnson stopped 18 shots, while UNO’s Evan Weninger had 29 saves in goal. (Check out more photos from Russ Hons here.)
