TIM MADIGAN: Anything Mentionable — A Gentleman In Moscow

I think “A Gentleman in Moscow” has a place among my top 10 novels. Fred Rogers said something to the effect that one of life’s great challenges is to make goodness attractive. The author pulled this off in spades with his protagonist, and every sentence is perfect. Amazing. Did I say I hate Amor Towles. Thanks Cathy Frisinger for sending this our way.

As long as we’re at it, here is sort of my top 10 novels or series, in no particular order. Please share yours.

  • “Life after Life,” Kate Atkinson.
  • “My Antonia,” Willa Cather.
  • “Grapes of Wrath,” John Steinbeck.
  • “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” Ernest Hemingway.
  • “Charming Billy,” Alice McDermott.
  • “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy,” John LeCarre’.
  • “A God in Ruins,” Kate Atkinson.
  • “Travis McGee” mysteries.
  • “Powers Boys Adventures,” Mel Lyle (my favorite thrillers as a kid).
  • “Every Common Sight,” Tim Madigan. (Sorry, couldn’t help myself, but it’s true. I love that book.)
