DAVE VORLAND: Photo Gallery — Minnesota Outdoors, August 2015

Bloomington, Minn., photographer Dave Vorland has an eye for the outdoors, as evidenced by these photos: A hummingbird checking out one of his partner Dorette Kerian’s feeders at their home, an orange-ish moon over the city Friday evening and a scenic view of the St. Croix River near Taylor Falls. The optical effect as shown in the moon photo is known as “Rayleigh scattering” and is caused by oxygen in the atmosphere and accentuated by particles of dust or, in this case, of smoke from distant wildfires in the western United States.

Nicely done, old man…(“old man” is a friendly term that HAM radio operators used to use…maybe still…I think the Titanic operators did too..but look where they got ’em)…anyway..good shots, as usual. I see you use the remote cord on your camera…have you considered a wireless remote? My Nikon 5300 has that feature, after dropping it for the 3100 and had to buy a third party remote..they now have restored it for the 5300 and above pro-sumer models. This is more information than you wanted, I’m sure. 🙂
